Go Tell Aunt Rhody, arrangement – As an improviser I love adding extra flourishes and altering rhythms. This arrangement is an extension of the fun I have improvising. Hold onto your hats, this is nothing like Suzuki Violin Book 1 version of this piece.
Mazzy Panks - The title is from made up words and meant to invoke a world of fun and fantasy. Mazzy Panks will get your feet stomping and share a contagious melody with you!
Spangled in 3 Movements – This piece was commissioned by the District Strings Suzuki Violin tour group at the Levine School of Music in Washington DC. The title comes from “Star Spangled Banner” and is a reference to the patriotic symbol of our American flag and was inspired by the group itself being located in the nations capitol. I composed the entire piece in 5/8 meter because it gives such a sparkly or “spangled” feeling to the music.
Sleep, Sleep – I composed the piece during the last year of my beloved grandfather’s life. His last year was very uncomfortable physically and emotionally. I used the music as an outlet to express some of the complexities of how this experience was for me. I ended the composition with a peaceful and sustained resolve as a way of praying for this experience for my grandfather who was in pain. I feel strongly that young musicians need healthy and safe outlets to explore some of the sadder parts of the life experience and hope this piece can help young people in that goal.
Twinkle Arrangements in the style of Copland, Mozart and Vivaldi - These are playful homage’s to some wonderful composers that have contributed so richly to our musical world. Enjoy some "lightening" from Vivalidi's Spring, have fun playing Mozart sparkle and feel expansive with some Copeland like harmonies.
Compose Your Own – I feel strongly that composing should be a part of every musician’s life so include templates in all of my books. Please feel free to copy these templates as much as you would like and explore for yourselves making patterns and shapes with sound and expressing yourself. You never know what you will find!
