These arrangements are a total win:
1- Students practice sight reading skills while solving a mystery (yep, that’s as fun as it sounds and these are a favorite in my studio).
2- Teachers actually have suitable sight reading material for their students since these arrangements literally use the exact same pitches and rhythms that most beginning level students play in their repertoire.
3- Parents have a fun way to support their young musicians prepare for auditions and/or enforce reading skills at home.
Why? In theory I believe that our students should be able to read at the level they perform at so this puts that theory to test by using the same pitches and rhythms of the repertoire they study just organized in a different way. Also, I personally love adding fun things like this to spice up my group classes and also use with students before an audition as sight reading practice.
