Mazzy Panks: The title is from made-up words and is meant to invoke a world of fun and fantasy. This piece is perfect for a performance group, and for extra creative musicians would be great to choreograph.
Go Tell Aunt Rhody, arrangement: As an improviser, I love adding extra flourishes and altering rhythms. This arrangement is an extension of the fun I have improvising and turns a simple beginner piece into a fancy challenge.
Spangled: This piece was commissioned by the District Strings Suzuki String tour group at the Levine School of Music in Washington DC. The title comes from "Star-Spangled Banner" and references the patriotic symbol of our American flag and was inspired by the group's location in the nation's capital.
Sleep, Sleep: I composed this piece during the last year of my beloved grandfather's life. His last year was very uncomfortable, and I used the music to express some of the complexities I experienced while processing this transition. I ended the composition with a peaceful, sustained resolve to pray for this experience for my grandfather, who was in pain.
The Twinkle Arrangements based on composers: These are playful homages to some wonderful composers that have contributed so richly to our musical heritage and a sweet choice for combining players of multiple levels into a single ensemble.
