The Chocolate Challenge

Ah yes, chocolate - this marvelous part of the human experience has made it's way into my studio for a playful challenge that I offer as a 2-way street to my students. In "The Chocolate Challenge (YES! this is as fun as it sounds)" you will learn a neat way to add some personality into your teaching and help your student find a new potential in themselves in 7 days.

Learn who the chocolate challenge is for (and who it is not for).

Learn why this playful challenge can help a student find their new level in 1 week.

Know that rewards can be either a slippery slope or provide a structure so the mind does not habituate defeat.

Ha ha, I love the chocolate challenge! I also appreciate how you explain that this is for the student who has a strong relationship with you and who is already doing well.

Right now I am I'm the middle of a 100 time listening challenge with my students! They each have a chart in my studio where they can color in how many times they listened that week. When they reach 100, they will receive a special prize, unique to them. For example, for a 7 yr old girl who loves Shopkins, will get a small pack of those. (I did check with her mom ahead of time, to make sure she was okay with me using this as a prize) This challenge reinforces something they already do - daily listening - but ramps it up a bit by giving incentive to listen more. Also, I decorated a paper bag and wrote on it "Reasons We Listen." I filled it with slips that listed those reasons. I based them off the great article Brecklyn posted a while back! (Thanks Brecklyn!!) Each week the students can draw out a slip from the bag, and we talk about whatever the reason is that they chose. More reinforcing for the students (and their parents) as to why listening is so important! :)
